KMTC 9TH SCM AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION(NIPMR), THRISSUR, 25TH MAY 2024

On May 25th, 2024, the 9th KMTC Stakeholders Connect Meet (SCM) was held in collaboration with the National Institute of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (NIPMR) in Thrissur, Kerala. This event aimed to unite key stakeholders in the Kerala MedTech ecosystem, promoting knowledge sharing, collaboration, and advancements in medical devices and technology. Under the theme “Innovating Together: Advancing Assistive Technology for All,” the meeting emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in developing effective assistive technologies to meet diverse needs and address gaps across various populations.

We were honored to have Dr. R Bindu, Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice, Government of Kerala, inaugurate the Meet. Her insightful address emphasized the vision of a Nava Keralam (New Kerala), as a barrier-free society. She highlighted the boundless scope and use of Assistive Technology (AT), emphasizing that every person deserves a personalized solution to lead a dignified and fulfilling life.

Dr. Bindu pointed out that more than 50% of persons with disabilities (PwDs) are unaware of AT solutions, making the need for awareness, training, and capacity building more pressing than ever. She stressed the importance of user-centric solutions, collaboration among stakeholders, and the role of KMTC in fostering innovation. She also acknowledged the vital convergence of expertise at Centers of Excellence (CoEs) like NIPMR and National and National Institute of Speech and Hearing, Karimanal, Akkulam, Thiruvananthapuram crucial for achieving a truly barrier-free society.

The KMTC Meet brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including researchers, innovators, startups, incubators, investors, non-profits, industry representatives, policymakers, and caregivers. This dynamic mix of participants fostered rich dialogue and paved the way for future collaborations. There were expert sessions, a panel discussion, an AT startup pitch sessions as well as a visit to the facilities of NIPMR. Apart from this, an exhibition of products and solutions was also organised. Over 60 attendees, including representatives from the medical technology sector, medical industry, research institutes, health technologists, healthcare workers, startups, research universities, colleges, and government officials, participated in the event. This diverse representation ensured a rich exchange of insights and perspectives, contributing to the success of the event.

Your active participation and contributions were invaluable in advancing the field of Assistive Technology, especially in promoting innovation, development and manufacturing in Kerala.
