As the Founding Director of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Dr Valiathan’s contributions have revolutionized healthcare and laid the foundation for a self-reliant India in medical innovation.

Dr Valiathan was not only an extraordinary healthcare professional but also an innovative and dynamic scientist. His pioneering work at SCTIMST led to the indigenous development of critical medical devices, including the Blood Bag and the Heart Valve, which have saved countless lives and set new standards in medical technology. His leadership and dedication propelled a young IAS officer, Balagopal Chandrashekhar, to leave his promising career and start a venture that would become the world’s largest maker of high-quality blood bag systems.
