BIO CONNECT 3.0 | MEDICAL RUBBER TRACK | 10th OCTOBER 2025 AT THE LEELA KOVALAM, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

Kerala’s Medical Rubber Vision Strengthened at Bio Connect 3.0

The Kerala Medical Technology Consortium (KMTC), in collaboration with Kerala Rubber Limited (KRL) and the Department of Industries, Government of Kerala, successfully hosted the Medical Rubber Track on October 10, 2025, as part of BioConnect 3.0 at The Leela, Kovalam.

This dedicated session brought together global experts, researchers, plantation leaders, industry professionals, and policymakers to explore how Kerala can evolve from a raw material producer into a global leader in medical-grade rubber manufacturing.

The deliberations spanned global perspectives, research translation, plantation-level practices, and regulatory infrastructure — forming the foundation for a Medical Rubber Roadmap 2035 for the state.

Key Insights:

➡️ Kerala’s rubber ecosystem is well-positioned to move toward high-value, certified medical rubber production through innovation, sustainability, and R&D partnerships.

➡️ Discussions emphasized the creation of a Bioengineering Translation Hub under KMTC and TRL-based R&D frameworks to bridge the lab-to-market gap.

➡️ Plantation leaders showcased best practices in low-protein, ammonia-free, and traceable latex production to meet global biomedical standards.

➡️ Panels on regulations and infrastructure highlighted the need for integrated testing, certification, and incubation facilities to accelerate industry growth.

The session also stressed the importance of ethical sourcing, ESG compliance, and the potential for a “Kerala Green Medical Rubber” identity in global markets.

The event underscored that Kerala’s strength lies in its convergence of research excellence, industrial capability, and policy commitment. Together, these elements can position Kerala as a global hub for sustainable, innovation-driven medical rubber manufacturing in the coming decades.
