I have heard that Kerala is a difficult place to do business. Is it true?
There seems to be a lingering perception that Kerala is not business friendly based on historical experience of the nineteen seventies when Kerala experienced militant trade unionism and there was some exit of industries from the state that was 50 years ago. Things have changed significantly in the past few decades and Kerala now boasts of high-tech manufacturing facilities in industries like food processing, electronics, medical devices, sustainable materials and robotics which are replacing traditional, low age industries. Kerala has a history of good governance, strong institutions and good government processes. It is ideal for companies that place high priority on compliance and ESG. Transparent processes and rule-based decision making ensure that business is made easy and costs are low.
